Easy tips on how to Lose weight after a baby
This is one question almost all moms google after having a baby. I have googled the same question many times so I know how disheartening it can be to see yourself in the mirror and wonder whether you will ever be back in shape again.
For me this happened usually after a visit to a mall or after a well meaning conversations with my loved ones.
So if you are still reading this, then the first thing I am going to tell you is – to have patience. It took nine months for you to be where you are so getting back is not going to be instantaneous.
Now second most important thing is – to remember that your foremost priority is to remain healthy . So that you can take care of yourself and your baby. Always remember not eating is not a solution and believe me it will not help you lose weight.
Thirdly, You need to be proud of yourself and of your body because what you have done or are doing is definitely not easy.
Now read on for some small and easy tips that can help you in your journey
1) Eat Healthy
Avoid eating anything and everything. Start looking at food in terms of health quotient. In pregnancy we were advised to have at least 5 fruits a days. Continue that habit. Try to eat home made food as you know exactly what goes in it and how its been prepared.
2) Do not confuse thirst with Hunger
Strange as it may sound but this happens many times. We eat something because we are thirsty. So keep yourself hydrated as it will help you avoid overeating and eating when you are thirsty.
3) NEVER starve or stop eating
Studies have shown that when you stop eating your body thinks that you are starving so whatever you eat gets stored as fat. So No matter what never starve yourself. Have small meals at frequent intervals.
4) Breastfeed your baby
Breastfeeding helps you burn a lot of calories and is excellent for your baby. Also there is a bond that you develop with your baby while feeding him or her as that’s your alone time with him. So please go ahead and continue feeding him. I guess its nature’s mechanism to help us lose weight.
5) Be mindful of sugar and sodium that you consume
It is not possible to eat healthy or have home cooked food all the time. And even in healthy food there is going to be sugar and sodium.
Sodium causes bloating and sugar (specially refined sugar as opposed to natural sugar found in fruits) helps in gaining weight.
You can’t stop eating sugar and sodium but all I am suggesting here is to take a stock of what you are eating and how much. Usually we have lots of sugar without realizing it -in a cup of tea, packaged juices, shakes, sweets and so on.
So be mindful of what you are eating and that will act as a natural deterrent and help you avoiding extra sugar and sodium.
6) Indulge in physical activity
Its difficult to find time to exercise after you have had a baby.
I personally am too lazy to exercise thus have not mentioned it. But it is important to find time to indulge in a physical activity.
You may chose to dance around with your baby, play with him in a park or simply go for a walk with your baby. You can walk around to help him go to sleep, you can take him to a park when the weather supports or else you can take him to a mall. I personally think its fun to go to a mall with your little one and see him watching everything in wonder. If you can then take a vacation and go sight seeing.
What I have realized is raising a baby and doing daily chores along with him is also a kind of exercise and helps us lose weight.
Well in the end – all I will say is have faith and have patience. Accept yourself the way you are and have fun. Raising a baby is most difficult thing I have ever done in my life and the most wonderful. So enjoy this journey.
